What are the different types of braces?

If your teeth are misaligned, there are various orthodontic appliances that can help restore the alignment of your teeth and jaw. Braces are an effective way to straighten the entire dentition (children and adults).

There are several types of braces, adapted to each type of problem and to each patient.

Fixed dental appliances : Dental Rings

Fixed braces, or “braces”, come in many forms (metal, ceramic or plastic). Dental braces are welded onto small rings and glued to the outside of the teeth. Although this is the most visible type of braces, it is the most popular in orthodontic treatment.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces get their name from the fact that they rest on the back of the teeth, i.e. on the side of the tongue. With this guy, we avoid having a steel smile!
This almost invisible appliance consists of basic elements similar to those of a traditional appliance, namely: brackets and a dental arch.

Removable dental appliances

As the name suggests, removable braces are not attached to the teeth and can be removed, especially during meals. Several types of removable braces exist and the clear model is one of them!

Invisible or clear braces are a fairly new concept in orthodontics, which involves wearing a series of custom-made clear aligners. This system is certainly more aesthetic, but it is relatively expensive and the treatment time is longer.

This orthodontic treatment allows for the gradual correction of the orientation of the teeth. In fact, the patient is required to change the mouthpiece every 15 days to ensure that the treatment is effective and constantly exerts pressure on the teeth.

Unlike metal or ceramic braces that damage the enamel, invisible braces have the advantage of not damaging the teeth.

Clearbraces are ideal for people who want to be able to remove their braces whenever they feel like it, whether it’s mealtime or any other occasion.

How is the choice of the device made?

It is up to your orthodontist to suggest the braces best suited to your needs, depending on the origin of the anomalies to be corrected and the desired result.
